About Our Online Games:
Questions about The Vanishing Act Remote
The Experience
How does this game work?
We have adapted our real-life escape room The Vanishing Act into an online format, for people to play from the comfort of their own homes.
You will have two (2) windows open on your computer – the Zoom app, which will allow you to converse with your teammates as well as the remote avatar inside the actual room; and our online inventory system.
You’ll direct the remote avatar to do certain actions on your behalf, but there will also be some content that you’ll be able to manipulate yourself. You’ll often need to work as a team in order to solve puzzles – there will be times when you’ll have information that your teammates don’t have access to, and vice versa. As in a real-life escape room, communication is key!
What do we need in order to play?
We recommend that each player connect via their own individual device, and for that device to be a desktop or laptop computer (the game site will not run properly on a smartphone or tablet). You will need to have the free Zoom conferencing app installed, a good internet connection, and some scratch paper & a pen/pencil. Make sure prior to the game that the Zoom app has access to your computer’s microphone & camera!
For the optimal experience, we recommend that each player use two monitors and/or devices – one for the online game site (must be a laptop/desktop computer), and the other for the Zoom call (can be a tablet/phone).
We also highly recommend using headphones for the best experience.
Do I have to be good at puzzles to play?
No. The puzzles in the room have been designed so that anyone can solve them, not just puzzle enthusiasts. The puzzles may deal with words, numbers, images, or the manipulation of physical objects. The game also tests your skills of observation, communication, organization, and teamwork. There are lots of ways for everyone to contribute to the game and enjoy the experience!
Is the content the same as the real-life version?
For the most part, yes. If you have played the real-life version of The Vanishing Act, we don’t necessarily recommend playing the online version unless you want to bring new players to experience the game (or if it’s been several years since you played, and you don’t remember many of the puzzles). Most of the puzzles are the same, though they may feel slightly different due to adaptations for remote play.
How many players can participate?
The online version of this game has been designed specifically for teams of exactly four (4) players, each playing on their own device. However, the game can be successfully completed by smaller groups. We do not recommend playing solo.
What if we have more than four (4) players?
Because the game was designed specifically for a four-player team, we highly suggest this for your team size. We have a max of four (4) connections per game, therefore if you have more than four players, some of them will need to share a connection/device. Please note that two or more players sharing a device will be treated as a single player.
Is the experience scary?
A little bit! We like to include some spooky elements in our escape rooms, but our goal is to provide players with a nervous anticipation, not to scare them (there won’t be masked men in chainsaws chasing after you). The Vanishing Act in particular has some dark theming which may not be appropriate for children.
How long is the game?
From start to finish, the entire experience typically takes between 90-120 minutes.
Is this game appropriate for children?
Because there are some spooky elements and occult themes in The Vanishing Act, we do not recommend the game for children under 10 years of age. However, you know your children best, so we ultimately leave this decision to you.
We do NOT allow groups of children to play without an adult supervisor. Please keep in mind that The Vanishing Act was designed for a mature audience – the storyline is dark and the puzzles are fairly difficult.

Is the game suitable for non-English speakers?
While our games include some language-independent activities, many of our puzzles do rely on some knowledge of the English language. In addition, you will need at least one player who is fluent in English in order to communicate with our remote avatar.
Booking
Will I be paired up with strangers?
No. Your time slot is yours and yours alone. You will, however, be communicating with a remote avatar who is on-site inside the real-life escape room.
Can we enjoy the game with just 2-3 players?
Yes! However, we do book this game on a flat rate per time slot, so your per person cost will be higher.
There is a fair amount of content in this game, so the more players you have, the higher your chances of success.

We ask that you bring no more than six (6) players in total.
What time zone are you in?

Can I use a Locurio gift code for this game?
Absolutely! Just type your gift code into the appropriate field upon checkout, and the amount will be deducted from your total.
